The closest train station is Prittlewell which is around a 5 minute walk to the ground. Southend Central station is around 30 minutes away.
Street parking is available near Roots Hall and at Southend High School for Boys (SS0 0RG).
If it's a nice enough day, a walk along Southend's promenade has a decent selection of pubs. We went to a place called Chinnerys which was reasonably priced with decent music. The Blue Boar pub on Victoria Avenue (where Southend were founded in 1908) is a good option for somewhere closer to the stadium.

Roots Hall was originally built on a landfill site which caused havoc with the drainage of the pitch having been laid above thousands of tonnes of compacted rubbish. The pitch had to be re-laid in 1956 and a proper drainage system installed to combat the problem.
